The short version
Coffee in the Sun has no user accounts, no advertising identifiers, and no analytics or crash reporting inside either app. There is no server of ours holding anything about you, because there is no server of ours at all.
This policy covers the iPhone app, the Android app and this website. It was last reviewed against the source code of both apps.
What the apps send, and to whom
To draw shadows, the app asks OpenStreetMap for the outlines and heights of buildings inside the area you are currently looking at. That request contains a bounding box and nothing else: no identifier, no account, no device ID.
To show temperature, UV and the forecast, the app asks MET Norway for weather at a coordinate. Again, a coordinate and nothing else.
The map itself, place search and address lookups are provided by Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android. Those requests are governed by Apple's and Google's own privacy policies.
These are anonymous requests, but they are still location data leaving your device. We would rather say that plainly than claim nothing ever leaves.
What never leaves your device
Your saved places, your sun alert settings, the cached building data, your language and filter preferences and your Pro status all stay in the app's own storage on the phone.
Every shadow, every timeline, every sun hours figure and every notification time is calculated on the device itself.
Location
The app asks for location only while you are using it, at coarse accuracy, and stops updating after the first fix. There is no background or always-on location tracking.
The last known coordinate is stored on the device so the home screen widget can draw a map. It is ignored once it is more than a day old, and it never leaves the phone.
You can decline location entirely. The app still works; you simply search for a place instead of starting where you are.
Notifications
Sun alerts are local notifications scheduled on the device up to a few days ahead. There is no push server and no device token, so nothing about your saved places is transmitted anywhere in order to remind you about them.
Purchases
Coffee in the Sun Pro is sold through the App Store and Google Play. Payment, billing and subscription management are handled entirely by Apple and Google; we never see a card number, a name or an address.
Whether you have an active entitlement is read from the store on the device itself. There is no receipt server in between.
This website
The website, unlike the apps, uses Umami to count page views. Umami is a privacy-focused analytics tool: it sets no cookies, stores no personal data and does not follow visitors across sites. It is used to see which pages people read, nothing more.
We draw this distinction explicitly because it would be easy to read "no tracking" on this page and assume it covered the page you are reading. It covers the apps.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, so there is no children's data to handle differently.
Your rights
Data protection law gives you the right to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. In this case there is none to access, correct or delete: deleting the app removes everything it stored, and nothing was ever sent to us.
If you believe that is wrong, write to us and we will look into it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what the apps do with data, the change will be described here and the date at the top will be updated.
